I have talked about Essentrics, stretching and fascia in previous posts. But what is Essentrics exactly? How did it help me and how can it help you? I think it is about time that I write a post with these questions in mind.
What is Essentrics®️? Short version.
In short, Essentrics is a full body workout that rapidly changes the shape of your body through a dynamic combination of strengthening and stretching. The technique develops lean, strong and flexible muscles with immediate changes to your posture. Perfect for men and women of all fitness levels, this program re-balances the body, prevents and treats injuries and unlocks tight joints.
There are three basic types of muscles contractions:
Isometric contraction: No visible movement of the joint and no change in muscle length (pushing against a wall).
Concentric contraction: Shortening of the muscle (bicep curl).
Eccentric contraction: Active contraction of a muscle occurring simultaneously with lengthening of the muscle.
The Essentrics®️ program is loosely based on the concept of eccentric muscle contractions. This is how the program got its name: Essentrics®️.
Essentrics®️ explained in 4 steps.
1- A dynamic workout based on the theories of Miranda Esmonde-White that simultaneously lengthens and strengthens every muscle in the body, resulting in greater joint mobility and lean, long muscles. 2- A full-body technique that works through the muscle chains, liberating and empowering the muscles, relieving them from tension in the process. 3- A completely original workout that draws on the flowing movements of tai chi which create health and balance, the strengthening theories behind ballet which create long, lean, flexible muscles and the healing principles of physiotherapy which create a pain free body.
4- We use a diverse music playlist accompanying each routine. The only thing you need to bring to class is a yoga matt, a bottle of water, and your smile. You will leave this class feeling energized, youthful and healthy.
How did Essentrics®️ help me?
I have been teaching movement in Dieppe, NB, since 2005. Through my own life experiences, I have been shown time and again the importance of daily movement in our lives.
I was born with a broken spinous process of the L5 causing the L5 to slip up to 52% over the years. As a child, doctors didn’t think much of my back pain. In my late teens, the pain got worse and I started to get tingling in my legs. By my 20s, the pain was chronic. X-rays and MRIs where taken and the L5 slippage was discovered. I was put on a waiting list for a spinal fusion surgery. In the meantime, I tried medication, physiotherapy and acupuncture to alleviate the pain.
During that time, I discovered the benefits of gentle, fluid movement. I was able to rebalance my back muscles, get rid of the chronic pain and stop the L5 from further slippage. I am grateful to say I never went for the operation. Essentrics rebalances my body, got rid of the pain, and keeps me in the best shape of my life.
I would love to help you achieve your own goals. It’s never too late to start moving and there is not better time to start than the present. Click here to find out more about the Essentrics, about the classes, and/or to book your spot.
Yours in health, happiness and success, Nancy Shimmy
